ERA in its 7th Annual Convention 2010 had a theme of MAGNETIC INDIA HARNESSING ENTERPRISING TALENT.
Well known personalities , Business icons , HR Professionals, Political Leaders were among the list of speakers to speak about the topics pertaining the above theme.
This session was anchored by Anokhee Parikh , a Professor at Aditya Birla College.
Her anchoring made the session even more interesting due to her elegant way of speaking.

The summit started in a traditional stytle with a Ganesh stuti sung by a play back singer. It was followed by lighting of lamp by Mr. Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Union Minister of State.
In an inaugural address, Mr. Jaiswal insisted , recruiters to accept the responsibility of being a responsible citizen of a democratic India. Where every responsibility is forced on government. He has humbly asked recruiters to see to it that unemployed should not be exploited. And provide them with better opportunities & thus contribute to the economic growth of India.
He also emphasized that he will make suggestion in the parliament to recruitment fraternity to be given industrial status.

ENTERPRISING INDIAN TALENT :
A mesmerizing speech & presentation given by Mr. R. N. Makhija, Director, L &T, laid emphasis on young leaders
Mr. Makhija himself is a classic example of stability & a role model for all loyal employees who stay in their organization for a long term. Well job hoppers can also be inspired by him if at all convinced by his idea.. He has spent around 44 years in L & T and plans to continue till he gets self satisfaction that he will be remembered as the BEST EMPLOYEE in his organization.
Being involved into CSR activities along with other responsibilities , he has set unique example as to how to absorb unqualified or unskilled laborer , school drop outs by engaging them into educational training program mes initiated by L & T and thus making them qualified by giving requisite training and educations. Thereby creating cost saving and reducing unskilled employment at global level.

Couple of more topics covered under this summit viz ----

IDENTIFYING & DEVELOPING LEADERS , with an idea supporting women leadership.

HOW TO BE AN EMPLOYER O CHOICE : ROLE OF BRANDING
In today's cut throat competition every organization is having a bull fight to survive in a global market and want to be a employer of choice. And have big time investment into PR , branding etc to promote themselves. BE IT EMPLOYER OR EMPLOYEE , EVERYBODY WANTS THE BEST.
Same is explained very humorously by Mr. H. R. Shashikant emphasing on KRA.
If u took KRA as Key Result Area then you got him wrong. Its rather “ KYU RAKHU AAPKO “ in his dictionary. “Yes”, an employer will always think as to why he should hire and retail a particular employee. It still continue with the employee perception why should I (employee) join You (organization) or why should I stay with you. If all these 3 factors work in co-ordination there is an auto – mechanism of branding of both employer and employee. As both will be happy with each other and work for mutual benefit. Again an ex-employee also play an important role in branding.

FUTURE OF COMPENSATION & REWARDS
This discussion summarizes the idea of equitable designing of compensation and benefits among SENIORS AND JUNIORS. And in the coming years it is more likely that the idea of compensation will get completely replaced by REWARDS as discussed by the panelist Ms Saagarika Rai CPO , Reliance Big Entertainment , Mr. Dhananjay Bansod CPO , Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt Ltd. , Mr. Yugesh Goutam VP – HR , KEC International Pvt. Ltd

ENGAGEMENT & RETENTION STRATEGIES :
Mr. Manuel D’souza , CPO illustrated with the help of statistics how he has implemented engagement & retention strategies and how its has helped improved overall productivity in his organization .
A very important message from this presentation is that , it is very important to keep employee engage which help to increase productivity and also have better work environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE OF SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES :
Mr. Aashu Calapa , EVP HR, First Source Solutions Ltd., Says often an image of CEO is reflected in the image of an organizations
According to Mr. Calapa , better organization culture should involve following steps

1)GETTING RIGHT CEO
2)RECRUITING RIGHT TEAM
3)MODELING RIGHT BEHAVIOUR
4)CREATING POLICIES THAT DON’T DIFFERENTIATE AMONG LEVELS
5)TAKE TOUGH ACTIONS AGAINST ERRANT BEHAVIOUR IRRESPECTIVE OF LEVEL
6)GOOD CORPORATE KNOWLEDGE
Justified the above points by a famous quotes given by Larry Bossidy
“I AM CONVINCED THAT NOTHING WE DO IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HIRING & DEVELOPING PEOPLE. AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU BET ON PEOPLE , NOT ON STRATEGIES”,

Last presentation was given by Mr. Sanjay jog HR Head – Pantaloon Retails India Limited about NURTURING INTRAPRENEURS – THE FUTURE GROUP WAY..

Towards the end of the session there was a lucky draw winner , Mr. Karan Kapoor , a HR Manager at S R Corporate Services Pvt.

Its was a nice and interactive session . But it is can be improvised and have better opportunites for job seekers and recruiters by providing myriad of other opportunities related to recruitment ethics at corporate level and individual level.

We have way to go with ERA!!

  1. Summits like these where industry people share their experiences are indeed very relevant in todays times where salary is high and ethics is low

  2. Thanks Nimmee for sharing this summit with all of us. It is very great that well known personalities, Business icons, HR Professionals are sharing their knowledge & experiences in such summit. It is very educating summit, we can learn many things from this.

I really liked Mr. H. R. Shrikant’s explanation of KRA (KYU RAKHU AAPKO) If Employer is investing on employee definitely he will be expecting the same returns from the employee& from employees perception it is vice a versa if he is doing hard work for his employer certainly he will be expecting some benefits from him. I truly believe that both employer & employee have to think for mutual benefit to build a strong team. Both should be happy with each other to survive & to grow as a team or company in this competitive global market. There should be unity in the team to win every battle

Organizational culture plays very vital role in the success of every company. “CREATING POLICIES THAT DON’T DIFFERENTIATE AMONG LEVELS” It shows that organization should treat all the employees equally irrespective of levels. In some corporate seniors do not allow their juniors to express their ideas. We are lucky that we are working in such place where we are encouraged to express our ideas& views.

  3. Firstly Thanks to Nimmee for sharing summit details and Congratulations to Karan Kapoor for winning the lucky draw.

These summits are again very knowledge sharing where people from different industries come together to share there valuable knowledge and experience. I really agree with Mr. Calapa, where his more focus is towards Organizational growth by developing Employee’s as whole as every Company is know for its Employees.

Hence today many companies are focusing on identifying and developing key skills in employees and retaining good employees by acknowledging them with various rewards.

As rightly said by Vidya each Employee and Employer should understand each other’s need to achieve Personal and Organizational Goals and thankfully I m working in one such Organization where I m motivated and encouraged by my Seniors.

Even myself have attended this summit. It is great to attend this kind of seminars were you get to learn many things from well know personality on respective topics overall this seminars was good. I really liked the explanation given by Mr.R.N. Mukhija who had explained on Enterprising Indian Talent , the way he was explaining on this topic was amazing from his explanation I got boosted that India have many talented people which is not coming fast as per expectation . This talent should be tapped in an unconventional way and harness this talent to achieve greater results. One should also have got to keep patience in his job as quoted by Mr Makhija.

Then we have one more good topic was Identifying & Developing Leaders

To explain in this topic there were four well know personality to explain on this

    1) Moderator : Mr. Raman Madhok he is open space consulting (Ex- CEO & JMD Jindal Steel)
    2) Panelist : Mr.R.Ramakrishnan (Executive Director-Bajaj Electricals)
    3) Mr Visty Banaji Executive Director & President (Group Corporate Affairs), Godrej Industries Ltd
    4) Mr Vineet Kaul Chief People Officer,Hindalco Industries

All were explaining in wonderful manner but I really like the point of Mr Vineet Kaul for instance if the co have four developing leaders they should be specialized in different area so that they can cover all the fields which is mandatory to develop the co as well their team so that can achieve the goals. I really agree with Mr Vineet Kaul because I have seen a live example in my current co itself that our four directors are specialized in specific areas & we are growing rapidly in all the fields simultaneously. We are also getting the opportunities to learn many things from them.

Another Topic was Role of HR FOR A SUCCESSFUL M&A

Moderator : Mr. Aluri Rao Managing Director, Morgan Stanley (Private Equity)

Panelist : 1) Dr.Lakshmi Nadkarni Leader For India – Dow Chemical International Pvt Ltd.

    2) Mr.K.A.Narayan President HR, Raymond Ltd

Miss Lakshmi is very down to earth women one can learn many things from her the way she was explaining it was amazing to hear from her, had given us good explanation about the m&a said that today many co are going for the m&a & even the hr are also taking more efforts in m&a they help the co while bringing some good conclusion which help the co for the m&a.

Ruchi has congratulated me for wining the luck draw i thank to her. But this is not my cup of tea my cup of tea will be when my co gets an award for the best consultants in india. Our team work is needed to achieve this award. Let us show our best to our clients.
