3rd Habit IN 4th Session - Put First Thing First

Dear Friends ,

For this awesome interaction we had on last Saturday on the 3rd habit of the Seven Habits I feel we will be short of words to demonstrate and express our views on this .

But it would be a good knowledge sharing session on this blog too if we all put our views and thoughts as soon as possible after the session .

Many of us write their views or share some points a day before the next session . If you all notice we tend to forget or it becomes difficult for us to recollect what we discussed a week back in the session and we may tend to miss our few special thoughts & views which comes to our mind immediately after the session, it may skip from our mind after a day or two.

I suggest to all my dear colleagues to take some very short time from your busy schedule and put your valuable comment on it ASAP .

These points will help you as well as others who may not remember that mentioned by you and vice versa .

Thank you to all of you for your kind cooperation and being an interactive participant in this session .

We will keep on continuing such sessions in future too. Suggestions will be welcomed .

Will keep you posted for the next session of Seven Habits where we will discuss the 4th Habit .

Hope none of us miss the next session .

  2. Put first thing first focus on integrity and execution. It is deviced with compass and clock. so the 3rd habits comprises of a speacial devices 2Cs. where compass is used as direction where we are supoose to go and clock represents time management. Our life's graph can be explained with the help of 4 quadrants . Each one of us belong to any one of the 4 quadrant. Of which 2nd quadrant is the most idealist one. We need to inculcate this quadrant in our life. This begins with a proactive mind set inculding contribution to mission goal , preparation, planning and prevention as expailned by Rakesh Sir.
Will share some live exmaple from my end as soon as it come to my mind.
One of the example that i really liked stated by sir was that of The Guatam Bhuddha.
What i understand from this example is that ", DONT GET PROVOKED DISPITE GRAVEST PROVOCATION" AND BE FOCUSED. Others who do leg pulling and back biting will remain where they. The person so is focused will alway lead towards one's mission.
One very important thing discussed in the & habits as a process of 2nd habit is " CREATE YOUR OWN ENVIORNMENT". Not every one of us are fortunate to have a positive natural enviornment. In such a case we have to do positive self talks to our self. And also share the same with you reliable friends. and this will surely help you to create an positive envoirnment. and thereby you can carry your own envoirnment.

  3. Again our 4th Session was very interactive, I can say none of us lost the energy, enthusiasm and the excitement in sharing and expressing views, thoughts opinions nor anyone of us was hesitating to clear the minutest doubt they had in their mind

This session has helped to move ahead as I felt this was very co-relating to our previous sessions where I did realized that I need to balance Personal, Professional and Social life and to devote the required time to each of them in moving a step ahead in becoming effective person.

I got the path to move …. Initially didn’t knew how to make my life better but understood this with the small but very important example (video about Big rocks)

After watching that video I realized that its not impossible to find the balance between achieving Personal and Professional goals at a same time as we all want to fulfill the dreams and desires in personal and professional life, if we truly desire we can live a life the way we want and knowing that actually we fall into which quadrant and correcting them.

After every session I feel I have so much to do in my life comparing it the way I use to live earlier ……….

  4. Truly agree with Nimmee Put first thing first focus on integrity & execution. Even i like to go for 2nd quadrant which more useful in our life to achieve goal, the points were Contribution To Mission Goal this point again remind me my vision statement which have written in my last session, second point was Preparation one should always prepared in their life to tackle different kind of situation in their life to get positive result, third point was Planning we should always plan in our life to get success in work or personal life if our planning is properly planned by us so it is easy to work on that situation, last but not least Prevention we should avoid unnecessary things which disturb us to achieve our goal.

I think we all are most in q1 & q4 quadrant, we should try to move towards q2 which is proactive quadrant.

  5. In the 4th session we revised each & every points which were discussed in the earlier sessions, which was refreshment to all of us.

As we have seen in the video we need to empty our mind & need to make space in the mind so that we can fill such valuable knowledge & restructure everything. Giving less attention which is not so important in our life is very clearly explained in the video.

Whenever I was feeling depressed, I used to listen to music or I used to speak with my friends so that I can forget the problems. But now I just imagine my self that I’m sitting in the session where every one is sharing their experiences & knowledge in the positive atmosphere which gives me the power to tackle the problems rather than escaping from it.

Putting first thing first teaches us to do the right thing at the right time. Whatever we are doing we should sincerely devote the time to that particular job only. As Ruchi said we all got the path to move ahead with these good habits. I believe, now we all are in this journey.

    So happy journey friends…………….

  6. “Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.”

    I am the programmer
    I write the program
    I execute the program

It is not enough to know what to do — we must act on that knowledge in order to have the lives we want. We spend our days waiting for the ideal path to appear in front of us. But what we forget is that, paths are made by walking, not by Waiting. Practicing Action Habit is the main step to reach our mission.

Put fist thing first signifies a lot towards the time management. Time management is very essential to reach towards the goal. We can never move the clock back and regain time already past. Time management is life management so guard your time with great care.

Discussion in 4th session helped me a lot to face the interruptions I was facing during this journey for achieving my goal. Thanks to everyone for sharing such inspirational examples.

  7. Hi All

It was really a amazing session , great amount of interaction and energy from all of us made it a memory.

Empty your pots and rearrange the rocks in the way you want them to be and feel satisfied.

Forget what had happened in past and move ahead is the life. Everything else is small when compared with your mission of life. So just be focused. I am sure you all will achieve what you want.

Remember whatever great people do , we can also do just we need to decide.

Do not be afrid to take decision in life , also take the responsibility of your decisions.

I think it was a great session , i was really charged.

Discuss more and more to get maximum benifit.

    bye for now.

  8. Dear Friends ,

Seven habits will help all of us to solve our professional , personal and social problems . To attend this conversation with everyone is a great experience for me till date. Before this session was planned I never had a single image or thought of the session / interaction that it will be so wonderful and interactive .

Thank to all those participants who make this short time more precious and meaningful by adding their comments and sharing their experience and thoughts during the conversation .

So its an opportunity to each one us to be part of such program’s where we learn and come to know about the new faces of life . The most important factor is our interest and involvement to absorb and share information and knowledge . We can only learn , understand and implement if we are interested for such gatherings otherwise it will be a waste of time .

I find myself lucky to have such special surrounding where we all are allowed to come together and share our views .

I assure you all that we will keep on managing and organizing such knowledge sharing sessions .

I have a suggestion and request to all the members at this blog -- If any one of us has a potential to share and conduct such session on any interesting , useful and meaningful topic they are most welcome for the same . But remember friends we need a through preparation for that to make it successful and meaningful . I have my full support for the same ,hope you all also support such training and developmental program at the office premises or any were else.

  9. The session attended was very inspirational and motivating. And the best way to implement it would be by continually asking yourself, “What is the most valuable for my time, right now?” the answer to this question will drive you in the desired direction. Your ability to discipline yourself to work on those few tasks that can make the greatest difference in your life is the key quality that makes everything else possible for you.
You can apply this law immediately by making a list of everything that you do as a part of your job or to do list. Now, analyze the list and select the two to three things that are more important than everything else put together. Remember to put first things first and get to work. Those 2-3 things will comprise of almost majority of your task i.e. say 75% of your word done.

  10. In 4th session we have completed first 3 habits which defined about our character. 1st habit is Being proactive is about choice. Habit 2 is Beginning with the End in Mind is about vision which always created twice. Habit 3 is Put first thing first .This habit is where Habits 1 and 2 come together. It happens in day to day life, moment-by-moment.

Now days we can see many teenager suicide cases for that many things are responsible. One of them is parent’s pressure, I think every child need their parent’s support, love and they want to spend good time with them and same love parents expect from their children so we have to manage our time schedule for personal, professional and social life.

We need to allocate our time not only as per clockwise but also compass. It would help to achieve the goals efficiently. I got more clarity when I saw the video. It includes imagine-creates-share and explore. Nothing can bring us peace but our self. We have to execute these habits in day to day life for our self.

This is time for implementation ……

  11. This session helped me with the concept discussed in the first session which I didn't attend.. I have started using pause and response practically in whatever things i do.
Sir had brought up 4 quadrants which we basically go through every day may it be professional, social or personal.
After a fair view over all the quadrants, i choose 2nd quadrant for myself. But to stick to this quadrant i need to be proactive as discussed in 2nd session.
May be i may not fall in the 2nd quadrant, but i'll try my best to drag myself there...

  12. In every session we get to learn new things in details. Looking back over the previous two habits providing a re-cap of what we've learned so far are also discussed so that we don’t forget them but simultaneously apply them in our day to day life.
The key to putting first things first is to understand that you have many things you can do which will have a significant, positive impact in our life. Quadrant I is reactive. Emergency breakdowns and fire fighting take place in Quadrant I. These are things that are usually both important and urgent. Quadrant I activities are more risky because they are unplanned, and unplanned activities are always more risky than planned activities.Quadrant II is Proactive where activities that are important, but not urgent, take place.

  13. I was waiting for this point to be discussed on this blog about IMPORTANT and URGENT .

When suddenly this question was raised during the session , what do we feel is there any difference between both these terms and what would we do first if both the situation is in front of us.

Belie me friends it was very difficult for me to answer this and give a quick response to the question as i could not make a difference between both and could not judge what would i do in such a given situation .
Some how after a fair discussion i got the clarity on this and was able to understand the difference and judge the answer .

Important work can have time but urgent work has to be done urgently .
WE all are habituated to make our maximum important work very urgent and then complete it in hurry . But we should always finish our important work on time so that it does not become urgent at some point of time .

    ReplyDelete
  14. It is not the work but the degree or worthiness it possesses matters. Be it urgent or important ,if urgent work is as worthy as it fetches maximum output and is well over the important work then the urgent work supersedes but if important work fetches you more and gives the results far better than the urgent one then, the case is vice-versa. so, it is not the question as to which work one does first but the degree of the net output one gets out of it.

Profit and usefulness that one gains out of it puts the right thing first.

So Respected Sir & Dear friends please let me know if I made any mistake in making above statement because in the session I was quite confused between both the terms "URGENT & IMPORTANT"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Urgent tasks are determined by external pressures and requirements. You must do them immediately.
Important tasks, on the other hand, are those that can contribute the very most to your long term future. Some of these tasks may be planning, organizing, studying, researching your customers, and setting priorities before you begin.

  16. We have discussed last time about this issue . We had a discussion on urgent work being important .

What is important work ? What do you understand by this term ?

For almost every one any work which has some worthiness is important . People do it or not that is different thing.
Majority of time urgent work has some or the other benefit for us and so why we do it.

We may not feel anything urgent till the time we are sure that this particular work is important and we are benefited with it .

If any one feels urgent work is not important please give an example .

IF any one of us are not clear on this term i assure you we will start the coming session with this topic.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I would like to share one practical example with all of you for important & urgent work, please correct me if I’m wrong.

For Example: Last Saturday I had to attend the session at 3 pm, but again I was handling one crucial position where I need to send the cvs in bulk. In this case both the things are important but at 3 o’clock attending the session was very urgent & important for me whereas sending cvs for that particular position was important but was not urgent at 3pm. I had option that I can send cvs on Monday or Tuesday also, here the time limit was 2 days & for attending the session I didn’t had any option, coz the time (3pm, 30/1/2010) once passed I cannot get that back.

Thus urgent work is very important…

  18. I would like to share one incident which recently happened with my friend which I think so much related with these 2 terms “URGENT & IMPORTANT”
My friend’s mother who was suffering from lever infection since more than 6 months doctor had advice her to operate it (AT THAT MOMENT IT WAS NOT URGENT BUT IMPORTANT) & at the same time they were looking for a groom for my friend. All the things were ready so, they to planned for her wedding “FIRST” & then operation.
Till all the ceremonies gets over her mother became so weak, now its time to operate her “URGENT” (NOW THE IMPORTANT CASE HAS BECOME URGENT AS WELL). Now the situation got so critical that she lost her 3\4 part of her lever.
So, I think if they would have taken proper decision to do the “IMPORTANT” thing “FIRST” this would not happen.

  19. As per my understanding in the previous session we are primarily supposed to focus on important task so that it doesnot become urgent. Anything that is not important or worthwhile will not become urgent.

So determining what ought to be done and what not, whether to consider important task or urgent task depends upon the time availabilty and clearity of desired outcome.

that is why we are ideally supposed to focus on 2nd quadrant.
Initially even i was confused but only after certain analysis and discussion understood. What is important if not done on time becomes urgent.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi All

Good to see so much discussion on the "URGENT" and "IMPORTANT". First of all i totally agree with Arvind , in case we want we can further discuss both the things in todays session.

In respect of the matter i would say that the e.g given by vidya and yogada are perfectly right. These e.g explain both the things very clearly.

I believe Important means somthing which is very much required by us to do, but there is no short term time limit set for this activity.

But when the same activity is restricted by some time limit which is very shot , than it becomes urgent and we have to finish it immidiately.

We can find many such e.g in our life and office work which are in our mind but we postpone them and then suddenly one day we have to do that out of compulsion.

I hope this will be more clear if we discuss more e.g in our session.

    bye
